Cascade maintains a full version history on all pages and files you add to your website. As changes are submitted to the system, Cascade keeps copies of previous versions that you can later restore if needed.
Accessing Versions
You can access Versions at any time by clicking the More tab on the top right:
The versions list shows a list of each version, the author for each change, including the original creator of the asset, as well as the time and date of the change and any notes available.
Side note: "Comments" are populated whenever you submit a page – if you don't enter a comment manually during the submission process, Cascade creates a default comment related to the location of your edit.
Viewing a version
To view a version, click on the asset's title in the Name column. If you select the checkmark you can view versioning tools to restore, but you may want to see what those versions look like first (unless you happen to know the exact date and time you want to restore). When you click the asset's Name, Cascade will take you to a preview of that version. You know you are viewing a version if you see a note on the top right corner like this:
Note: Edit, Submit and Publish options are not available in this view. You cannot edit the page again until you are viewing the CURRENT version of the page.
Comparing and Restoring Versions
Once you view a version, you will see a few new options available in the "More" dropdown on the top right (See screenshot below)
- Compare with current and allows you to compare this version's content with the CURRENT version of the page. This is helpful if you're not sure which areas of the page were updated.
- Restore this version allows you to restore the page to the version you're currently viewing. All content will now be changed to use this version, and this now becomes the CURRENT version.
Other helpful tools:
- View newer version and View older version allow you to navigate through other versions. Any time a change was Submitted in Cascade, it is marked as a new version. It's a good idea to keep an on the date in the top-right corner so you can determine how far apart each version is. This is helpful if changes to the page were submitted minutes or hours apart.
- View current version takes you back to the current version of the page.
Note: Activating a version does not wipe out the current version for an asset. The current version becomes versioned as well, allowing you to effectively undo the activation.
Finishing up
Once you've found the version you want to revert to, click Restore this version. Your past content is now restored and you can access editing tools for the page.
Finally, Publish your page to push the restored version to the live site.
